Practicing Reiki

While you can learn about Reiki by reading books, you can't actually perform Reiki until you've been 'attuned' by a Reiki Master (teacher). The 'attunement' connects you directly to the source of Reiki energy, and once you're attuned, the ability will never leave you. You don't have to be a spiritual person to learn Reiki. You don't even have to believe in it. You simply need to receive the attunements and it will work for you.

Reiki is taught at different levels, progressing from first degree Reiki , to second degree Reiki, which allows the practitioner to send distant healing in addition to enhancing the original attunement, and finally to third degree Reiki (Reiki Master). It is important to allow time for hands-on experiences between degrees. You need to do some self-treatments as well as treating others so that you feel comfortable with your connection to Reiki energy before you move on to the next level. The length of time between degrees depends on how comfortable you are with your Reiki abilities. We recommend several sessions before progressing to level two.

When you become a Reiki Master, one of the things you learn is how to connect others to Reiki. As a master, you will be able to attune others and teach them to use Reiki energy to heal themselves and others. You can earn the title of Reiki Master by completing your training, but, as with all things, to actually master the art of Reiki requires dedication and practice.
